Ogimachi Village
Ogimachi Village during autumn in Shirakawago. These Gassho-style houses are known for their steeply pitched thatched roofs which subsisted on the cultivation of mulberry trees and rearing of silkworms and are the only examples of its kind in Japan. Ogimachi Village is one of the three villages, also the largest of the three villages (Ogimachi, Ainokura, and Suganuma) that comprise the UNESCO heritage sites of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama.Guests are able to stay overnight in these houses and experience the lifestyle of those who live here.
