About Us
Our Journey Together
Roam To Wonder is comprised of May, a designer, and Josh, a former engineer, who met in 2011 through eHarmony. We shared a love of travel, adventure, and photography that took us individually to various places around the world prior to becoming a couple. Josh had explored Asia while in the U.S. Navy and May spent time exploring Europe. Having a desire to explore led us to take numerous road trips around the Western United States to experience its natural beauty. We began our adventures by taking weekend trips to explore California and then Southern Oregon. Weekend trips then led to longer and further road trips to Nevada, Arizona, and Utah to experience nature’s beauty. Using any opportunity we had to visit National Parks and collect National Park Service Cancellation Stamps. Our first international trip was to Japan in 2012 and it only made us want to travel internationally more. In 2014, we made the decision to save up for a year and then travel around the world beginning in 2015 to become digital nomads. Taking our relationship to the next level, Josh proposed to May in August 2014 at Crater Lake National Park and got married on March 14, 2015, amongst the redwoods. On April 28th, after selling, giving away, or donating our things, we boarded a plane, said goodbye to the U.S. and headed to Fiji to begin our new and unconventional adventure together roaming the world.
Our Travel Philosophy
Working traditional 9 to 5 jobs gave us short periods of time to explore places so we would always have to cram as much as possible into the limited time we had whenever we went somewhere. We knew we didn’t want to travel that way around the world. What if we could spend more time in a place, learning more about the local culture and leaving with a more satisfying experience. So we began to embrace the concept of slow travel. Slow travel would allow us to had the time to live like a local, try local cuisines, and venture down the road less traveled. It didn’t start this way, though. Our first three months of travel was spent traveling on a quick pace around Fiji, Australia, Indonesia, and Malaysia. By the time we reached Malaysia we knew we needed to slow down and finally embrace the slow travel philosophy. So we got a 60-day visa for Thailand and headed to Chiang Mai where we would spend two months and begin our life of traveling slower, living like locals, and having deeper experiences.
Travel Goals
Travel is not free, so we set out to explore the world with the goal of becoming digital nomads to fund our travels. It is a venture that is new to both of us, but one we wholly embrace. A benefit of our slow travel is that we have the time to work on our business goals. Something that would be harder if we were constantly on the move. Traveling the world is not just about experiencing other cultures but also about pushing ourselves to become better versions of ourselves. With this in mind, we are taking the leap into entrepreneurship so we fund our travels. We live our lives with enthusiasm to learn to better. We aim to come away from each place we visit better citizens of the world. Pushing ourselves to show the world we see through striking photography and telling authentic, meaningful stories of the people, cultures, and natural landscapes we encounter.
